Although this is often confused with the size of the diamond, carat refers to the weight of the diamond.1 carat is equal to 0.2 grams. 1 carat is divided into 100 points, which means that half a carat is equal to 50 points. However, the size of a diamond is not necessarily determined by its weight since the cut chosen by the gemologist and the cutter has a considerable influence.
The price of the diamond and its value grows drastically as carats increase, owing to the rarity of high carat diamonds.
Advice for choosing a diamond according to the amount of carats:
– Personal taste, budget, mount, and finger size should be taken into account if it is for a ring.
– A diamond can appear larger or smaller depending on its cut or the jewellery that it is set into. Do not hesitate to ask us for information and consult our gemologist.
